As Hong Kong’s flagship annual cross‑regional arts exchange platform, Asia+ Festival continuously brings in premium original productions across Asia to foster integration among performing arts of diverse cultures, ethnicities and regions. Highlight of 2026 – Taksu, a large‑scale percussion theatre co‑created by Malaysia and Indonesia, merges millennium‑old musical heritage, ethnic dance and contemporary stage aesthetics of both countries. It will be staged at Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium on 6‑7 November, presenting Hong Kong audiences a spectacular cross‑border feast resonating with bronze‑drum melodies.

Produced by Malaysia’s leading arts collective Hand Group together with senior Balinese Gamelan artists from Indonesia, Taksu is one of Southeast Asia’s most representative cross‑cultural original percussion works in recent years. It fuses three percussion aesthetics: Chinese lion‑dance drums, Malaysia’s 24‑Festivals Drums and Balinese Gamelan bronze instrumentation. Featuring over thirty classic Gamelan bronze instruments, gongs, metallophones and full drum sets, together with traditional Mak Yong dance and ethnic chanting, the show creates a distinctive “Contemporary Gamelan Theatre”.

The Hong Kong stop forms a key leg of its international tour. The Youth Choir of Hong Kong Children’s Choir is specially invited to perform a Gamelan‑arranged version of Jasmine Flower. It enables a cross‑border dialogue between timeless Chinese melody and age‑old Southeast‑Asian musical art, fully embodying the cultural spirit “Art without boundaries, harmony across all lands”.
