Gip Chan

Chan Wing Yip, also known as Gip Chan, is a a renowned percussionist and the first Chinese champion of the Italian Percussion Competition. He graduated from the Music Department of Hong Kong Baptist university and has been invited as a consultant, master class instructor, and performer at various international arts festivals, such as Marimba Arts Festival in the University of Western Australia, the National Music Competitions for Young Artists in the Philippines, and the Qing Song Cultural Center in South Korea.
Apart from receiving numerous awards for his leadership and direction of percussion ensembles in prestigious schools in Hong Kong, Gip has also been invited as a guest performer by national orchestras, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Macau Orchestra, and the Suzhou and Guiyang Symphony Orchestras.
After completing his undergraduate studies, Gip turned down an invitation to become a master’s teaching assistant in the United States and instead chose to pursue his talent in art curation. He founded a music group in Hong Kong Arts Development Council, the Hong Kong Youth Development Commission, and City University of Hong Kong’s Tech 300. Art Go Digital, which stood out among 300 outstanding art groups, was Asia’s first percussion virtual reality tour and art project that revolutionized the possibility of percussion music.
In just five years, Gip has not only been able to play beautiful and unique percussion music but has also made his music group the most active percussion ensemble in Hong Kong that promotes technology, environmental protection, and sustainable social development through art. As a recipient of the 2022 Youth Cultural Leadership Award in Hong Kong, Gip is now a graduate student advisor and traveling band assistant instructor at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music, as well as HKADC (music) funding committee. He is also committed to searching the results of percussion art management in Hong Kong and empowering young people to tell good stories about Hong Kong through their art.
